CNC Plasma Operator & Crane Operator – Plate Processing – Vulcan
My client, Vulcan, is a major metals supplier in New Zealand. Their Plate Processing plant in Wigram, Christchurch is seeking a CNC Plasma Operator for permanent, full-time roles – night shift – 2pm-12.30am, Monday-Thursday – employed directly by Vulcan. CNC experience is preferred, but not necessary as can be trained.

Duties include (but not limited to):
- Perform cutting operations.
- Set and operate CNC machines.
- Read and interpret drawings to correct specifications and instructions.
- Ensure procedures followed as per quality control procedures, checking measurements to ensure quality of parts.
- Monitor consumable condition and change as required.
- Manage cutting schedule to ensure minimum downtime.
- Load and unload tables as per accepted procedure using overhead crane and/or by hand – checking the grade and thickness before cutting.
- Ensure remnants are stored safely.
- Ensure accurate completion of paperwork for drawing room.
- Assist with machine maintenance/repairs, and ensure routine maintenance is performed as scheduled.
- Use crane/forklift to move the parts around the workshop.
- Maintain a safe & tidy working area.
- Assist with other workshop duties as required.
Desired candidate qualities include:
- CNC machine operating experience but candidates without experience will also be considered.
- OSH Forklift with F endorsement – if no F-endorsement, then a full drivers license is required.
- Overhead gantry crane experience – not essential as will be trained.
- Strong focus on H&S.
- Basic to medium computer skills.
- Medium to high reading, writing and English skills.
- Good attention to detail.
- Have urgency with the work done and show enthusiasm.
- Fit and strong as heavy lifting is required.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- A team player.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and reliability.
- Reliable transport.
Successful applicants will be required to complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
