CNC Plasma Operator & Crane Operator – Plate Processing – Vulcan

My client, Vulcan, is a major metals supplier in New Zealand. Their Plate Processing plant in Wigram, Christchurch is seeking a CNC Plasma Operator for permanent, full-time roles – night shift – 2pm-12.30am, Monday-Thursday – employed directly by Vulcan. CNC experience is preferred, but not necessary as can be trained.

Duties include (but not limited to):

  • Perform cutting operations.
  • Set and operate CNC machines.
  • Read and interpret drawings to correct specifications and instructions.
  • Ensure procedures followed as per quality control procedures, checking measurements to ensure quality of parts.
  • Monitor consumable condition and change as required.
  • Manage cutting schedule to ensure minimum downtime.
  • Load and unload tables as per accepted procedure using overhead crane and/or by hand – checking the grade and thickness before cutting.
  • Ensure remnants are stored safely.
  • Ensure accurate completion of paperwork for drawing room.
  • Assist with machine maintenance/repairs, and ensure routine maintenance is performed as scheduled.
  • Use crane/forklift to move the parts around the workshop.
  • Maintain a safe & tidy working area.
  • Assist with other workshop duties as required.

Desired candidate qualities include:

  • CNC machine operating experience but candidates without experience will also be considered.
  • OSH Forklift with F endorsement – if no F-endorsement, then a full drivers license is required.
  • Overhead gantry crane experience – not essential as will be trained.
  • Strong focus on H&S.
  • Basic to medium computer skills.
  • Medium to high reading, writing and English skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Have urgency with the work done and show enthusiasm.
  • Fit and strong as heavy lifting is required.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • A team player.
  • Excellent attendance, punctuality, and reliability.
  • Reliable transport.

Successful applicants will be required to complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
