Press Operator – Plate Processing – Vulcan
My client, Vulcan, is a major metals supplier in New Zealand. Their Plate Processing plant in Wigram, Christchurch is seeking a Press Operator, to operate their presses on a day shift – 6am-2.30pm, Monday-Friday OR night shift – 2pm to 12.30am – Monday to Thursday. These are permanent, full-time roles, employed directly by Vulcan. Pressing experience is preferred, but not necessary as can be trained.

Duties for this role include (but not limited to):
- Set and operate CNC machines.
- Perform pressing operations accurately as per instructions/drawings/specifications, and on-time, aiming for 100% Delivery On Time.
- Ensuring quality control procedures are followed, checking measurements to ensure quality of parts.
- Manage pressing to the schedule to ensure minimum down time.
- Perform duties in accordance with all safety procedures.
- Use an overhead crane or manually handle parts safely.
- Use forklift to move parts, pallets, and tooling.
- Assist with machine maintenance/repairs, and ensure routine maintenance tasks are performed as scheduled.
- Maintain a safe and tidy working area.
Desired candidate qualities include:
- Pressing experience preferred, but not necessary as can be trained.
- OSH Forklift with F endorsement – if no F-endorsement, then a full drivers license is required.
- Overhead gantry crane experience – not essential as will be trained.
- Strong focus on H&S.
- Basic to medium computer skills.
- Medium to high reading, writing and English skills.
- Good attention to detail.
- Have urgency with the work done and show enthusiasm.
- Fit and strong as heavy lifting is required.
- Ability to work unsupervised.
- A team player.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and reliability.
- Reliable transport.
- Candidates who need visa support will be considered.
Successful applicants will be required to complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
